About Lisa Romain, Ph.D., LMFT, LPCC, LAADC, SAP 

Dr. Lisa Romain is an Organizational Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Consultant, Professor, Mediator and a Department of Transportation (DOT) Substance Abuse Professional (SAP).  She serves as the President of Cox Romain Psychological Services, LLC, an affiliate of Cox Romain Walker Divorce Mediation and Executive Director for New Beginnings and New Hope, a non-profit organization. Dr. Romain's concentration areas include, personal and business coaching, marriage and family therapy, personal counseling, educational counseling, substance use counseling, domestic violence counseling, career counseling, higher education teaching and mediation.  Within these areas, her specialties are, Organizational and Executive Consulting, Corporate Training, Leadership Development, Training and Development, Marriage and Divorce Mediation, College and University teaching, Career Exploration and Development, Vocational Testing and Life Transition issues.  In her work as President of Cox Romain Psychological Services, she works as an expert organizational psychologist, compassionate counselor and psychotherapist, and higher education advocate.  In her work, she provides her expertise to a variety of organizations, individuals, couples and families.  Dr. Romain has assisted business executives and organizations in developing and achieving goals that lead to success. 

Additionally, she helps individuals, couples and families recognize and build healthy relationships, and restore family units.  She collaborates with psychologists, therapists and community and corporate partners for those who need consultation.

As a counselor and professor, Dr. Romain is familiar with community agencies, their functions and specific techniques useful for working in such settings. She is well versed in techniques of interviewing, assessment, intervention, and referral. Dr. Romain administers and interprets career assessments, advises and prepares individuals for opportunities in the workforce.

Dr. Romain has organized international study tours and networked with community members for workshop presentations, interviewed community agencies, observed working conditions for site visits and organized and facilitated organizational group discussions. As a consultant, she provides corporate training, leadership development, executive coaching, assessment and interpretation, strategic planning workshops, career exploration and development services to various agencies, and addresses organizational management, development and behavior issues to help individuals work more effectively in organizational communities. 

Dr. Romain supervises and mentors students and counseling interns, has written and published magazine and blog articles and co authored and published a book chapter.  In her most recent work, she published magazine articles, titled “Recognizing and Recovering from Domestic Violence”, "Understanding Psychological & Verbal Abuse" and is currently working on book publications highlighting issues surrounding women in leadership, domestic violence and corporate culture.  Dr. Romain works extensively with perpetrators and survivors of Domestic Violence, formally incarcerated and those that struggle with Substance Use.

Ms. Romain has a B.A. in Psychology, M.Ed. in Educational Counseling, M.S. in Organizational Management and Development, a M.A. in Marital and Family Therapy, and a Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology.  Dr. Romain teaches Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Child Development, Behavioral Science and Human Service, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Field Experience and Practicum, Career and Life Planning, Quest for Identity, College Success, Major Search and Alcohol and Other Drug Studies courses at the community college and university levels.  Additionally, Dr. Romain is a National Certified Counselor, Licensed Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Master Registered Addictions Specialist, Domestic Violence Counselor, and holds Myers Briggs Type Indicator Practitioner certification.  Her background in organizational psychology and marriage and family fueled her beliefs that organizations and people need a compassionate and diplomatic person with excellent listening skills, neutral advocate and a strong negotiator in their lives to help them reach consensus on issues that people must address in order to thrive in organizational cultures and intimate relationships.  She firmly believes that the final result is a consensus that is fair and equitable without divisive tactics and emotional toil.

 Dr. Romain strongly believes that organizations should be equipped with knowledge and skills that lead to success.

Mission Statement

Cox Romain Psychological Services, LLC was founded by Lisa Romain in 2013.  It is an affiliate of Cox Romain Walker Divorce Mediation and New Beginnings and New Hope. 

Dr. Romain has worked on marriage and family issues since 1994 and organizational concerns since 1999.  She has known about marriage, couple, and family issues, and organizational concerns since she was in graduate school.  She holds a strong belief of integrity, restoration, equity and fair treatment and that belief has dominated her philosophy in and throughout her life.  After working as a community college counselor and professor, an organizational psychologist, and psychotherapist, then working with colleagues and couples in conflict, Dr. Romain was perplexed with how many people she knew who had encountered conflict and were unable to make healthy decisions in their lifetime-especially while in intimate relationships or addressing organizational concerns.  Each and every story and experience resonated with Dr. Romain, as she too, owns several businesses and has worked in higher education for over 24 years.

Cox Romain Psychological Services strives to empower organizations and people to fully address issues that prevent organizational and personal success.

The goal is to empower organizations and individuals in developing or achieving goals that lead to success.
